Visit of Scouts to the Ohel Jacob Synagogue

  |   Guided Visits, Judaism

On Sunday, February 24, we received the twenty scouts group who came to the Ohel Jacob Synagogue to learn more about Judaism. Morá Regina Szterenfeld, Chazan David Alhadeff, and Director of External Relations Ana Scherer, were there to greet them.

The group listened closely to the history of the synagogue and of Judaism, including its movements and ways. They watched in delight while our Chazan read the weekly portion of the Torah and show them the sacred text. All were impressed by the commonalities between Judaism and Christianity and even made a connection between Judaism and scouting itself: both have at their core the mission of making this world a better place.

What would only be an hour’s visit, lasted for two hours due to the curiosity of the scouts and their leaders. They also visited the small synagogue museum and were thrilled to see the burnt Torah rescued from the infamous “Kristalnacht” which happened in Germany in November 1938.

The Ohel Jacob Synagogue prides itself on being an inclusive and open-minded organization to the whole community. Our doors are always open to teach and welcome all who wish to know more about Judaism.
