The name of the seventh day of the week is derived from the Hebrew – Shabbat – which simply means “cessation of work”. The shabbat is not just a rest day: it is a day of holiness, when people can, for a short period of time, leave aside their concerns and objectives of material life, and devote themselves to the spiritual renewal and to the religious activity.
