A part of the Ohel Jacob Library consists of a large historical collection of books offered to this synagogue by refugees from Germany, Austria and Poland during 1934 and up to 1945. Most of these books are prayer books, Chumashim (Bibles) and there are some books about German history and some in Yiddish to learn Hebrew. What makes them special is that many of them contain names and dedications of refugees and therefore are important objects for researchers in the history and Jewish liturgy.

All books, with photos of the dedications, signatures and complete bibliographical information can be searched in this catalogue. [The books have already been catalogued, but they are not yet launched in the system, so if you have questions on the subject or refugee names, you will have to contact us for now.]

A second part of the Ohel Jacob Library consists of a common collection of life support books in the current synagogue, mainly in Portuguese language and about Judaism, being important for studies, learning about the Judaism in general, about Progressive Judaism, Jewish culture, Hebrew learning, study of the weekly portion, and more.
