Jewish feast also known as Feast of Weeks, celebrated on the fiftieth day of Sefirat Haomer. Because of this count, the feast is also called Pentecost. Shavuot marks the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai, the Ten Commandments in the synagogues are read, as in the desert on Mount Sinai, over 3,300 years ago. The word Shavuot means “weeks.” It celebrates the completion of the seven-week Omer counting period between Easter and Shavuot.
