The Jewish New Year is the Day of Judgment, when G-d determines each one’s destiny for the coming year. A major part of Rosh Hashanah’s service is the sound of the shofar that awakens people to repentance. Rosh Hashanah also symbolizes the creation of the Universe, the birth of Adam and Eve and is therefore celebrated as the beginning of the Jewish year on the first day of the month of Tishrei.
