purim - Purim

Purim commemorates the salvation of the Jewish people from the destruction planned by the evil Haman. The story is told in the Megillah of Esther, which is used to be read twice. It is also a tradition to celebrate this festivity with masks and matching clothes, in a euphoric atmosphere for the celebration of the victory of the Jewish people against the Persians. The name “Purim” comes from the Hebrew word “pur”, which means “lottery.” This was the method used by Haman, the prime minister of King Achashverosh of Persia, to choose the date on which he intended to massacre the Jews of the country.
